Spring Break - day 2 - Jasper
The plan for the day was to go for an ice walk through the Maligne canyon.
Step 1 - get kitted out with ice cleat thingies.
On the way to the canyon, we had to watch out for bears...
Heading up the track, the only bear in sight is Kristy Lou.
This is Jess, our knowledgeable guide.
Here we are at the top, checking out the frozen waterfall.
Ok, down we go into the canyon.
Hey Cayde, climb under this rock - maybe it will fall on you :-)
Leaky, icy, mossy stuff.
Somebody dropped their pet pumkin.
Hmm - could this be an avalanche waiting to happen?
Into the canyon.
At the base of the frozen waterfall.

Amazing how much the ice looked like the stalactites at Jenolan Caves.
The secret entrance to some unnamed super hero's lair.
Turns out that the leaky, icy, mossy stuff had an ice grotto behind.
This sign tells you all about how you can tell there is an underground river here.
We figure that the water gushing from the ground is a bit of a give-away.
Pretty ice crystal puddle thing.
A Canadian kangaroo.
After the ice walk, we headed up to Medicine Lake.
Medicine lake is interesting - when the ice melts the lake drains away through the porous ground.
Somebody's been having just too much fun...
Then it was off to the Fairmont Resort for some lunch.
I'm not sure if squirrel on a skewer was on the menu.
Click on the picture below for a closer look.
Yes, that is ice covering the pool in the foreground.
Yes, those are people swimming in the pool in the background.
Wacky Canadians.
They keep their cows on the wall... hmm
And have signs for the bears to keep on the path.
Then off to Patricia Lake.
Boats aren't much use on the ice :-)
Rawwrr!
